All though a general purpose robot platform the scorpion King (SK-101) was originally designed for research in machine vision and in-building autonomous navigation. It?s a robot with ergonomics in mind. The orientation and elevation of the face-plate of the robot is such that a graphic display along with a keyboard could be accommodated ergonomically. Mounting a compact laptop onto the face plate could be another option for an ergonomic human interface. The tall observation mast provides a desirable view point for panoramic and stereo vision-cameras. An adequately powerful lifting gripper with pincers like fingers and a padded palm is provided in the lower front of the robot. The robot can grasp, pick and carry objects as heavy and big as a sealed coke can with ease. And two highly flexible, spring loaded, 8inch arms on both sides are ideal for mounting various sensors. Once mounted re-positioning of the sensors would be an easy task.
